World-class summer on-snow training camps in Oregon, Europe, and the Southern Hemisphere set the tone for a productive dryland training block once school starts in September. Our students then have two months to get their academic footing and participate in other co-curricular activities正规体育投注开户 on or near Northwood's campus in Lake Placid, New York. Students have the opportunity to get on snow in Austria toward the end of October as part of a training trip and again in Colorado at the end of November for another pre-season on-snow training block. During this time, our own Olympic mountain and site of multiple championships (Nor-Am Cup, NCAA, USCSA, U.S. Nationals, U16 Nationals), , begins snow-making operations to ready the exclusive training venue for the winter season.
Northwood School has a long-standing partnership with the , a “Gold Certified Club” by the US Ski and Snowboard, the national governing body of skiing and snowboard competition. NYSEF is one of the original eight 'Gold Clubs' and has been a leader in snowsport instruction since 1973. Northwood and NYSEF share experienced coaching staff正规体育投注开户 and other services like transportation, dryland programs, and training camps. NYSEF provides athlete lodge facilities and training venues at Whiteface Mountain, the Lake Placid Olympic Ski Jumping Complex and Mount Van Hoevenberg in partnership with the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA).
The coaching staff works with each team member to identify personal athletic goals and put together a training and competition plan geared toward achieving those goals. Skiers compete from the U16 state level into regional championships, all the way to U.S. Nationals and beyond. Over the past two seasons, Northwood U16 ski-racers captured multiple individual U.S. Eastern Championships titles, an overall title at that event, and appeared on the podium at the U16 National Championships. U19 Skiers continue to receive invitations to U.S. Ski Team training camps, following in the footsteps of former Northwood skiers still competing at the highest levels of the sport. Past Northwood students are still performing at the top level of the sport. This includes Andrew Weibrecht '03 (USA), a two-time Olympic medalist & five-time top-5 World Cup finisher in 2016, Kevin Drury '06 (CAN), currently ranked 11th in the world in Ski-Cross, and many others racing at the collegiate level on the EISA, NCAA, USCSA, and the Canadian RSEQ UNI FIS circuits.
